STATEMENT
OF FAITH

Scripture: The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments provide divine inspiration,
authority, and sufficiency as an infallible rule of faith and practice.

God: God, who is infinite in His being, exists as God the Father, God the Son, and God the
Holy Spirit. He is absolutely sovereign, having from all eternity, by His own free will, ordained
whatever comes to pass. The triune God has created the world out of nothing in a space of six
days. God, in His providence, upholds all things by His sovereign authority.

Man: Man fell from original righteousness and became dead in sin, that sin and death being
imputed to all mankind. God originally entered into a covenant of works with Adam, but when he
sinned, God enacted the covenant of grace. In his sin man lost all ability to will anything
spiritually good.

Christ: Jesus Christ is of one substance with the Father; became virgin born; as the God-Man
became the mediator, offering the perfect sacrifice. Christ purchased reconciliation for all those
whom the Father has given Him.

Holy Spirit:  The Holy Spirit is the manifest, immersed presence of God, indwelling and
empowering a believer to live a Christian life.

Salvation: Through His Word and His Spirit, God effectually calls all those whom He has
predestined to eternal life. He renews their spirit and draws them to Jesus Christ. Hence,
salvation is entirely by grace. God justifies these believers, declaring them righteous; He adopts
them as His children; and He sanctifies them. Saving faith is a gift of the Spirit of Christ.
Repentance is a doctrine to be preached along with saving faith. Good works are the fruit of true
faith.

Perseverance: Those whom God has saved can neither totally nor finally fall away from grace,
but persevere to the end and will be eternally saved.

Assurance: Only true believers will have the assurance that they are in the state of grace;
unbelievers will not have that assurance.

Worship: God is to be feared, loved, praised, called upon, trusted in, and served with all the
heart, soul, and might. Worship is to be accorded to God and no one else. Prayer is to be
offered to God. A lawful oath may be part of religious worship.

Church: The universal church consists of the whole number of the elect; the visible church
consists of those who confess their faith. All believers are united to Christ and are in a holy
fellowship in the worship of God. Christ has given Church officers authority in which they enact
church discipline.

Sacraments: Baptism is a seal and sign of the covenant of grace, administered primarily by
immersion. The Lord's Supper commemorates the death of Christ. There is no remission of sins
in either sacrament.

Death and Judgement: After death, bodies return to the dust, but the soul immediately returns to
God: the righteous received into heaven; the wicked ultimately into the Lake of Fire. All authority
has been given to Christ who will judge the world in righteousness

HISTORY

Mactan Christian Centre is a Christian Church situated in Casanta, Mactan, a duly established church by the laws of the Philippines, with SEC registration.

MCC’s pioneering pastor is the Reverend John Bartlett, an Australian. Ps John first came to the Philippines in 1989. He was involved in several Evangelistic Crusades on the island of Mindanao, and returned several times from Australia to the Philippines. In 1997 he came to live permanently in the Philippines, with his wife and daughter. Later a son was given to them by the LORD.

Ps John began to teach in a Bible College in Banawa, Cebu. At that time, he commenced ministry on the island of Mactan with a local pastor from Cebu.

Together they commenced a work of evangelism at the Soong dumpsite, then Ps John commenced a Bible Study in the home of a founding church member nearby. From there, a small church was built, which was the first MCC church, a nipa hut. Moving forward, through the generosity of Ps Norm Armstrong (deceased) and Ps Ruth Harvey, he was able to purchase a lot in Casanta, and built what is now the MCC building.

Over the years, the ministry of MCC has reached people from all walks of life. Ps John initially worked with a local pastor at the Cancer ward of Vicente Sotto Hospital, Cebu, then for the past 21 years, Ps John is ministering at the House of Hope, a drug Rehab Institution. He then focussed the ministry of MCC to Eversley Child Sanitarium, Mandaue, an area set aside for the recovery of those suffering from Hansen's Disease, commonly known as Leprosy. Ps John also does Bible studies in a prison on Lapulapu.

MCC commenced with a Bible study in one house and has grown into the church it is today. It has been involved with children’s assistance through school, and to College. MCC has a great focus on children, with its 5 monthly Children's Outreaches, in different areas.

Men’s, Women's and Youth Fellowships are a part of the life of the church.

MCC has a full time Secretary, currently 4 Teachers in the new learning Centre. Having commenced in School Year 2011-12, MCLC has just completed its 8th Anniversary in March 2019.
