Background: I had a nice discussion with someone from HoH this morning. And yes, we reminisced. We compared notes. Him, girls drugs and a bag snatcher. Me, girls, drugs and alcohol. We asked each other - did you enjoy? Both said yes and I wouldn't change any of my past. Me? I really enjoyed those years. I was free. No rules. No rules. Free.
You see miserable people in their own prisons of rules. I wanted something or someone I took it. Free. Then after many years I became a Christian. And then I became free. But did I really? Gal 5:1 it is for freedom that Christ set us free. So if I am and have been set free by Christ why do I feel less freedom than when I was in the world and free? God told Adam you are free to eat of any tree except…Gen 2:15-17. So Adam was free. He could do what he wanted. He was free to obey God. When we were free in the world we did not understand that we were really slaves to sin Rom 6:16. The moment Adam disobeyed he became or transferred from Rom 6:16, 18, 22 from slave of righteousness(that means slave to obeying God) he then became slave to sin (slave to disobeying God). So when we were free or thought we were free to do what we want we were really slaves to sin. But we did not know that. We just called it… living a good life. But once coming to Christ we are no longer slaves to the world but slaves to God for righteousness. We changed Masters. World (sin) to God (righteousness). Before we did what we wanted. Now we do what God wants. So, in Christ, we are both free Gal 5:1 and slaves Rom 6:18. So when will we stop being anyone's slave? When will we be free without any laws from anyone. World? Obey your passions. God? Fight your passions. There's only three so stop being a hypocrite – pride, greed, lust. Stop your hypocritical pretending you are not guilty somewhere. So as we discussed, when will we really be free? No more words of slavery one way or the other. Not a slave to the world. Not a slave to God. Free. I mean free. Like at when I was free in sin and I could do what I want. When can I be free in righteousness to do what I want? Not on this earth. This earth has laws whichever or whoever is your master. So are we free or slave? We are free to do what God wants. But isn't that still slavery? No. Yes. The problem is the body. So the only true freedom is when we have the mind of Christ 1 Cor 2:16 and the glorified body at Jesus' return. Till then we are free slaves. After that we will be free freemen. Careful there.
