What is eternal gratitude?
Is there any such thing, realistically speaking?
Short memory.
What is a short memory?
Is there any such thing,, realistically speaking,?
Let's say eternal gratitude is saying to Christ, thank you Jesus for doing something special for me. And because of this I will always remember what you have done and I will always show my gratitude to you by.....
Let's say short term memory is saying what you just said above...eternal gratitude...but you quickly forgot what you said...I will show eternal gratitude.
So, drawing those 2 ideas together...it means quickly forgetting what someone has done for you, the super gratefulness you had for what was done for you, is very quickly forgotten. The eternal gratitude is replaced by another thing wanted to be done for you, thereby forgetting all the things that were done, with a consistent expectation of more.
The Israelites quickly forgot how many times they were rescued by God. Time after time God rescued them. But they had a short term memory.
They quickly forgot. More things done for the Israelites. They quickly forgot.
And when they had to do something small for the LORD they did it with such pain. It was a bother for them. They actually severely suffered from short term memory loss.
What about you?
Do you quickly forget what God has done for you, either himself or through other people (which in fact is still himself)? Forget easily?
This we need to be careful of that our minds don't turn from gratefulness, to thinking something should always be done for us, expectation.
We should never take for granted anything that comes our way.
We should always remember how we received something with great joy.
Then somehow,, we forget the joy. The joy turns to a burden.
The issue is never about the other person. It's about you.
God will deal with the other person's error.
You focus on eternal gratitude and don't have a short term memory.
