A milestone is a very big event in a person’s life. One person’s milestone may not be another person’s milestone. But some milestones in society may not be a birthday when a person is 100 years old or 90 years old or 80 years old. We do not call being 20 or 30 a milestone. A milestone maybe when you have tried to do or achieve a big event in your life. Congratulations Dorothy, in achieving the wonderful milestone of 80 years of age. You certainly have the favour of the LORD. Scripture tell us, that the LORD decreed, that we would live Ps 90: 10 70 years, or 80 if we have strength. Dorothy you are a lady who has defied all odds. No one would expect a person in your physical situation to have so many years of life. Yes, they have been very difficult years. But God has allocated you clearly 80 year or more. And no one can give you long years except the Lord; so you are truly blessed. Your 80 years is a strength from the Lord. No medicines can make us live long. No human activity ca make us live long. It is God who has numbered our days, Job 14: 5 and Ps 139: 16 you have been given many years by the LORD. God appointed for you a limit exceeding your 80th birthday. This is a wonderful achievement. You did not do it but LORD granted it to you. Somehow, we realise not many of us will reach that milestone. You have. Congratulations.
To the rest of us: So, now I challenge each of us, what milestone have you accomplished in your life? There are milestones that we achieve, like a birthday that we have no control over when we die. We can be healthy and die young, or we can be poorly, and die old. These are milestones beyond our control. But there are milestones within your control. They are not easy to achieve. They require hard work, they require sacrifice. What are you, not just aiming for, but actively working towards? To say ”I did” I never thought I would reach the milestone of 20 years in the Philippines; but here I am. And going on my 25th year here. A milestone. And looking with all my passion to do ministry, and now to build Grade 6, it will be a milestone in my life, one I never expected to attain. What pushes you on the inside? What are you aiming for? More than a job. They are a dime a dozen but something where you can say…”I did it” or others can say... “you did it”. Maybe a milestone in your life , may be a physical achievement . they usually are. But you could tie in a spiritual and physical dream/goal so that when you achieve it, it could be classified as a milestone. The thing about milestones, in years, is both Ps. 90: 10 – their span is but toil and trouble or Gen 47: 9 130 years and they are few and difficult. No milestone is easy. Much pain and hardship to go through, in order to arrive at your goal. Perhaps, for some, to live to 70 may be a milestone. May it count.
